Magnetic Lashes by Silly George - A Review from a Girl with Small Eyes and Barely Any Natural Lashes

A review TL;DR is at the bottom.

I kept seeing these adverts all over Facebook, and I finally caved and decided to buy some, because if I continue to spend as much money as I do on temporary extensions, I'm gonna lose a fortune. They did seem pricy at first glance, but as you can see on their site, the more you buy, the more you save. 1 is $24.99, 2 is $22.99 each, 3 is $20.99 each, 4 - 9 is $19.99 each, and 10+ is $17.99 each. Plus--there's a promo code 'SAVE25' that gets you an additional 25% off of the price.

I opted to buy 2 pairs of 'Dailies,' 1 pair of 'Originals,' and 1 pair of 'Dramas.' With the bulk pricing (4 pairs for $19.99 each), and then another 25% off with the 'SAVE25' promo code, my total came out to $59.97, with free shipping.

Despite what I saw on some reviews about how they took forever to arrive - I ordered mine on Friday, April 19, and received them on Wednesday, April 24. Really quick shipping!

I decided to open up with the Dailies first.

The instructions you see above include two ways to attach lashes - either by keeping them intact, or clipping the bottom piece into 3 pieces. However, I opted to do it a third way - clipping both the top AND bottom pieces into 3 pieces each, for a total of 6 pieces per eye. I'll elaborate on this a bit further down.

So originally, they came like this:

So, these two pieces are both for the right eye. One goes on top of your natural lashes, and one goes on the bottom of your natural lashes, and when they get attracted to each other via the 3 small magnets you see along the lashline, they basically 'sandwich' your natural lashes and hang on that way. The magnets are fairly strong, and I'm very confident that they wouldn't fall off in the course of a normal day, even with wind.

The first issue I had with these lashes is that they're way too long for my eye size. The site says that they are 29 mm, but that they can be trimmed 1 mm on each side on the very left and right, down to 27mm, so I did as such:

And it was still way too long for my eye :(

I opted to try the second way of application, wherein I keep the top piece intact, but the bottom piece cut into three pieces:

So while it did make it easier to apply, it was still not quite fitting to my eye shape, as the top piece was still too long:

As you can see, the inner corner was basically falling off, because I was trying so hard to squish the length all into my eye size. So what I ended up doing is just cutting both the top AND bottom pieces into 3 sections--one piece per magnet.

As you can probably tell, I also trimmed it down even further on either side of each magnet for each piece. I think I ended up shrinking it down to 23 mm, approximately. Yay for Asian eyes! lol.

By the way, the case that this comes in is also magnetic - so you don't have to worry about them just tumbling around somewhere. They magnetically stick to the shimmery pink surface!

Given that they also stick to each other, you can organize them like this:

Set for left eye and set for right eye is picture.

So here is what it looks like with lashes on my right eye vs. no lashes on my left eye:

It might look subtle in the picture, but in real life, these are actually pretty dramatic for me, given that I naturally have almost zero lashes! If this is how the dailies look, I'm curious as to how the Originals and Dramas will look.

From all angles, here is how my right eye looks with these lashes on:

Basically, the closer you can get it to your natural lash line, the better. I did so by using tweezers with my left hand for the bottom piece while holding the top piece with my right hand (basically smushing my fingers against my eyelid/forehead), slowly bringing up the bottom piece with my left hand and tweezers until they pinched in place right by the lash line. I switched hands for my left lashes - tweezers in my right hand for bringing up the bottom piece while holding top piece in place with my left hand. I also held my head at an angle in the mirror rather than straight on, so I could better see the magnets.

So this is me without vs. with these Silly George magnetic lashes:

I'm very pleased with this product! They're kinda pricy for false lashes, but given that they come in a magnetic case and are more durable, as well as the fact that I spent 5x this amount on lash extensions, I think this was a good buy. They're also comfortable - lighter than regular false lashes. They are maybe slightly heavier than lash extensions. I'm not sure why other reviewers mention that it was so difficult to get them on, or that they are uncomfortable and pinching. I've been wearing them all day today and I like how they look and feel--no pinching whatsoever. Also, after splitting the lash into 3 pieces for both the top and bottom, I would say it only took me 2 tries before I got them on how I wanted to.

TL;DR: good buy, especially considering how much I already spend on lash extensions. These are more durable than regular false lashes, and you don't have to depend on any glue or magnetic eyeliner like you would with MoxieLash. The more you buy in one purchase, the cheaper it is, plus an additional 25% off with 'SAVE25' at checkout. The case is magnetic, which is convenient. I would recommend trimming both the top and bottom pieces for each eye into 3 pieces each (1 piece for each magnet); they come as 29 mm long, but I ended up cutting mine down to about 23 mm. Easy to use, comfortable, and looks good! I recommend this product.
