eBay sucks now - scammers, outdated platform, fees, and more

I've used eBay a few times to sell old phones, a laptop, and some other miscellaneous items. Then I found the joy of selling on apps such as LetGo and OfferUp as well as the legitimacy of Craigslist (I was always kind of sketched out by it before) and the emergence of Facebook Marketplace, along with apps like LetGo, poshmark, Wallapop, OfferUp, and other similar apps . The last time I really used eBay on the regular was around 2013. In February, my dad passed away, leaving behind two cars--a 2008 BMW 750Li and a 2006 Jeep Liberty 3.7L. I thought I could get more money if I were to auction the cars off on eBay than to set a price for it and try to sell it that way. It was my first time coming back to eBay in a few years, and boy, have things changed. First of all, you can only have so many listings a month before you have to start paying to be able to sell. So if you happen to list an item, and it "sells," only for the buyer to end up backing out of the sale--it s...

Crab Dip with a kick

Image
I go crabbing pretty often in the summers, as it was a tradition my dad started with me in childhood. I live in northern Virginia, and it's an hour or two drive to the nearest Maryland state parks to catch the beautiful swimmers, Callinectus sepidus (blue crab). I saw this recipe on Epicurious , but I made some tweaks to it. because I had 8 ounces of cream cheese instead of 4, and I had a shit ton of crabs I caught. Mind you, this is a pretty decent serving. I would say it's about 3 times what you get at restaurant. It fit nicely in a 10" diameter deep circular pan. Ingredients: 2 cups (16 oz) of lump crab meat 8 oz cream cheese, whipped 1 cup mayonnaise 1 lemon (for 3 tbsp lemon juice, 1 tsp lemon zest) 1/4 cup minced onion 4 tbsp minced chives 3 tbsp minced garlic 1/2 tsp seafood seasoning (old bay, whatever) 3 tbsp panko breadcrumbs 1/2 tsp paprika 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper olive oil or butter Process: 1. Whip the cream cheese. If you just took it ...

SmileDirectClub - Part 2 (first progress update!)

Image
Sorry it took so long to put up an update! I've been waiting to see some visible difference in my teeth prior to posting, but in retrospect, I probably should have updated more frequently to let you guys know I'm still here! So this first photo is a photo I took on the very first day I had my aligners in. The aligners are on my teeth, and you can probably see them now that I've pointed it out, and especially when compared with the next picture, where I don't have my aligners in. I think they're otherwise pretty invisible. I was afraid they were gonna be bulky and conspicuous, but they're really not! I do have to say, though, that I had a bit of a lisp during my first two weeks of wearing them. I would say it was around the end of the second week that I got used to them being in my mouth, and my tongue learned to avoid the lisp and get used to basically having slightly thicker teeth from the aligners. As you can see, my bottom teeth have a cro...

SmileDirectclub - Part 1 (my first box/set of aligners!)

Image
My aligners came in the mail late last week--meaning it   only took about ten days  from the day I went in for my scan appointment until I received the physical aligners! In the meantime, they did also send me  an e-mail with a 3D animated model  of how my teeth were going to slowly adjust to get to the smile I want. That was pretty cool to see! My treatment duration is also going to be 6.5 months. This is the box that I received: And here's what's inside (a bit messed up from me ravaging the contents like a beast because I was really excited): Top is a baggie with my aligners, bottom left is Glo whitening vials, and bottom center is a bag with tools for adjusting your aligners. So this first box comes with two months' worth of aligners. There are four bags total (I already got started on Aligner 1 by the time I took this photo). Each bag you see below contains an aligner for your upper teeth and an aligner for your lower teeth in them, and you are ...

SmileDirectclub - Intro!

So I decided to start SmileDirectClub. I never had braces when I was younger, and after my wisdom teeth all erupted, it caused some serious crowding issues near the front of my teeth. I'm rather self-conscious about my smile, but I promise to post a 'Before' and 'After' shot once I'm done! I did go to a dentist and an orthodontist to see if I could get Invisalign or some other type of invisible aligners, but due to my insurance coverage (or lack thereof, for braces after a certain age), it would have cost me over $5k to do Invisalign. SmileDirectClub, on the other hand, is a flat fee regardless of how messed up your teeth are (provided that it's still within the "eligible" range of messed-up-ness; I think if your teeth require much more extensive work, you may not be eligible for SDC. You can always get a FREE consultation if you decide to go in-person into an office rather than do the mailed kit for impressions). You can either pay  $1700 all up...
