SmileDirectClub - Part 3 (halfway done!)

So, I started SmileDirectClub back in May of this year. It was a fairly easy process to get started, although customer service could have been approved upon. It was hard for me to find the office because it was in a WeWork coworking space where all the offices looked alike, and the customer service representative I called ended up not transferring me on accident, so I was just stuck on the phone with her while she was blissfully unaware of my shouting for her attention as she talked to her coworker. I don't know how other SmileDirectClub office locations are, though, so I hope that not everybody had as difficult of a time as I did.

I received my kit shortly after my appointment and got started in early June sometime. I posted an update after 4 sets (out of 13 total) so you could see my progress.

Today's post is about how it looks after 7 sets! So I'm a little over halfway done, and I'm pleased with the results so far! Again, this is how my bottom row of teeth looked in May of 2017:

Also, I'm wearing my first set of aligners in this picture. You can probably only tell because my teeth appear to be kinda thick/bulky, but otherwise, the aligners are pretty much invisible. The only thing I needed to get used to was the sensation of just having them basically squeezing my teeth, and the subsequent lisp that came with it.

And I'm not wearing my aligners here. I've always had trouble with whitening my teeth because of how crooked they were (i.e. brushing them meant that the bristles wouldn't reach in some crevices), but now, I think I'll finally be able to whiten them for good. I'm overall very satisfied with SmileDirectClub so far, and I'm fairly sure that I would have gotten similar results for a much higher price if I went to an orthodontist. My insurance unfortunately doesn't cover aligners or braces after the age of 18, so SmileDirectClub was by far the cheapest option out there at $1,700 total. (You can also do a down payment of $250 and then $99/month for 17 months, for $1933).

I'm excited to see the end result! 7 down, 6 more to go.

My aligners came in the mail late last week--meaning it   only took about ten days  from the day I went in for my scan appointment until I received the physical aligners! In the meantime, they did also send me  an e-mail with a 3D animated model  of how my teeth were going to slowly adjust to get to the smile I want. That was pretty cool to see! My treatment duration is also going to be 6.5 months. My Review of Getaway.House in DC - 'Glamping' at its Finest

I've never been one for camping, but I do love the outdoors. Being from the D.C. metropolitan area, I've been in dire need of a reprise from my full-time job, three part-time jobs, and general humdrum of daily living. Enter Getaway House ! Getaway basically builds glamping (glamorous camping) trailer-houses in the woods. It's currently in Boston, NYC, and DC. The houses are all in a campground that falls within a 2 hour drive of the aforementioned cities--far enough to remove yourself, but not so far that you feel like you're running away from problems or anything like that. At $125/night for 2 people for the nights we chose, it's a pretty great value for the experience. There are 2- and 4-occupant homes. The 4-occupant homes have bunk beds, while the 2-occupant homes have a queen sized bed. Crab Dip with a kick

I go crabbing pretty often in the summers, as it was a tradition my dad started with me in childhood. I live in northern Virginia, and it's an hour or two drive to the nearest Maryland state parks to catch the beautiful swimmers, Callinectus sepidus (blue crab). I saw this recipe on Epicurious , but I made some tweaks to it. because I had 8 ounces of cream cheese instead of 4, and I had a shit ton of crabs I caught. Mind you, this is a pretty decent serving. I would say it's about 3 times what you get at restaurant. It fit nicely in a 10" diameter deep circular pan.
